AMON RA was created in the early 1970s as an offshoot of Saydisc Records to explore authentic performances on original instruments of music of the MEDIAEVAL, RENAISSANCE, ELIZABETHAN, TUDOR, BAROQUE, CLASSICAL and ROMANTIC periods with a strong emphasis on the HISTORIC KEYBOARDS of the FINCHCOCKS MUSICAL MUSEUM at Goudhurst in Kent. Other instruments featured in the series include historic HARPS, GUITARS, MANDOLINS, LUTES, CLARINETS, FLUTES, OBOES, BASSOONS and many ancient instruments such as SACKBUT, SHAWM and CRUMHORN as well as VOCAL and CHORAL music.
'It is always stimulating to encounter music with which one is not familiar. It is a tribute to Amon Ra that the label has made such repertoire something of a speciality, and that it has done so with such obvious and long lasting success' CD Review
