The Athene label was founded in 1992 by pianist Joanna Leach, a specialist in the playing of period square pianos, in order to publish her own performances. Quickly however the label attracted other artists such as legendary pianist Peter Katin, who also made CDs on period instruments. A series of discs under the Athene-Minerva banner brought live concert recordings by celebrated pianists Andreas Boyde and Raymond Clarke as well as orchestral and chamber music. The label was acquired by Divine Art in 2003. |
