Music Director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, a post he has held since 2000, Bramwell Tovey continues as Principal Guest Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, and as founding host and conductor of the New York Philharmonic’s Summertime Classics series. As an internationally esteemed guest conductor, he has made appearances with the Seattle Symphony, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. His Requiem for a Charred Skull received the Juno Award for Best Canadian Classical Composition in 2003, his Urban Runway, co-commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and New York Philharmonic, was well received in 2008, and he is completing a commission by Calgary Opera for the company’s third original full-length opera, set to premiere in January 2011. Bramwell Tovey has amassed an extensive discography which includes recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Hallé, and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
