BIOGRAPHYThe baritone Alan Opie appears frequently at The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, English National Opera, The Metropolitan Opera in New York, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Vienna State Opera and Glyndebourne Festival Opera in a large repertoire that includes Giorgio Germont (La traviata), Beckmesser (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), the Forester (The Cunning Little Vixen) and Balstrode (Peter Grimes) besides the title roles in Verdi’s Rigoletto and Falstaff and in the world premiere of Berio’s Outis. He has participated in almost twenty complete opera recordings for Chandos, singing the roles of Figaro (The Barber of Seville), Enrico (Lucia of Lammermoor), Don Carlo (Ernani), Count di Luna (Il trovatore), Tonio (Pagliacci) and Marcello (La bohème). He was nominated for an Olivier Award for ‘outstanding achievement in opera’ for his performance as Falstaff with English National Opera, and appears in two Grammy-award-winning recordings, including Chandos’ Peter Grimes as Captain Balstrode  |
