BIOGRAPHY

Internationally renowned as an opera and concert conductor of distinction, Harry Bicket is especially noted for his interpretation of baroque and classical repertoire. In 2007, he became Artistic Director of The English Concert, one of the UK’s finest period orchestras. Recently he has won praise for his work at The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Opera North, Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, and Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona. He made his debut at The Metropolitan Opera, New York in 2004 in a new production of Rodelinda with Renée Fleming and David Daniels, and returned to conduct Giulio Cesare in 2006 and La clemenza di Tito in 2008. In the US he has also appeared at Los Angeles Opera and the Glimmerglass, Spoleto, Aspen, and Santa Fe opera festivals, among others. In the concert hall he has conducted the symphony orchestras of Seattle, San Francisco, and Denver, Colorado, the Minnesota Orchestra and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre philharmonique de Monte-Carlo and Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Most recently he has made acclaimed visits to leading European summer festivals, including an appearance at the BBC Proms with The English Concert and Mark Padmore in Handel’s Samson. He recently conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic and made his Japanese debut with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and will soon conduct productions at the Opéra national de Bordeaux, Theater an der Wien, The Atlanta Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Toronto, and Lyric Opera of Chicago, among others.
