BIOGRAPHYThe winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Award in 1987, the soprano Janice Watson studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has appeared in concert with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas, London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Colin Davis, Sir André Previn and Riccardo Chailly, Orchestre de Paris, Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields under Sir Neville Marriner, London Philharmonic Orchestra under Bernard Haitink and both the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under Riccardo Chailly. Her operatic career has taken her to the Opéra de Paris, Vlaamse Opera, Antwerp, Santa Fe Opera, San Francisco Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, Wiener Staatsoper, De Nederlandse Opera, Deutsche Staatsoper, Berlin, The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Teatro alla Scala, Milan and The Metropolitan Opera, New York. Janice Watson is a regular guest with English National Opera and Welsh National Opera. Most recently she sang Blanche (Previn’s A Streetcar Named Desire) at the Theater an der Wien, Elisabeth (Tannhäuser) for Opera Australia, Elsa (Lohengrin) for Staatsoper Hamburg, Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes) in Naples, Elisabeth de Valois (Don Carlos) for Opera North and Leonore (Fidelio) in Beijing. Her discography includes, for Chandos, recordings of Peter Grimes, The Poisoned Kiss, Jenufa, Così fan tutte, Owen Wingrave and Don Carlos.  |
