BIOGRAPHYOlivier Charlier studied violin with Pierre Doukan and chamber music with Jean Hubeau. Having attracted the attention of Nadia Boulanger, Yehudi Menuhin and Henryk Szeryng at an early age, he successfully entered international competitions, winning his first violin prize at the age of fourteen. He has performed as soloist with the Orchestre national de France, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Residentie Orchestra The Hague, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, The Hallé Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and Sydney Philharmonic Orchestra, and at venues in St Petersburg, North and South America, Malaysia, Thailand and South Africa. Since 1981 Olivier Charlier has been professor of violin at the Paris Conservatory and in 2002 was a member of the Jury of the Indianapolis International Violin Competition. His award-winning discography includes, for Chandos, concertos by Édouard Lalo, Henri Dutilleux, Roberto Gerhard, Edward Gregson and Gerard Schurmann.  |
