BIOGRAPHY

Enjoying a flourishing international career which has taken him to more than forty countries, the Australian pianist Piers Lane has appeared in such prestigious venues as the Royal Festival Hall, London and the Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, New York. He has performed with the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Hallé, among many others, under leading conductors such as Andrey Boreyko, Sir Andrew Davis, Richard Hickox, Andrew Litton, Sir Charles Mackerras, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Maxim Shostakovich, Vassily Sinaisky, and Yan Pascal Tortelier. In great demand as a chamber musician, he has given sold-out recitalsat the Wigmore Hall, London, the opening recital at the new Melbourne Recital Centre, and has long-standing partnerships with the violinist Tasmin Little, soprano Cheryl Barker, baritone Peter Coleman-Wright, and violist and composer Brett Dean. Making annual trips to Australasia, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music in 2007, and in the summer of 2010 toured New Zealand with the Doric String Quartet. Piers Lane’s extensive discography includes recent critically praised recordings of Bach transcriptions by Eugen d’Albert and, with the Australian ensemble Goldner String Quartet, Piano Quintets by Ernest Bloch, Frank Bridge, and Antonín Dvorák.
