BIOGRAPHY

Rustem Hayroudinoff graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied with Lev Naumov, and received his postgraduate degree (DipRAM) at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Christopher Elton. He has performed to great critical acclaim in the United States, Russia and Europe, and is a frequent and popular visitor to Japan. His concert appearances have taken him to the major concert venues in the UK, including St John’s Smith Square, the Barbican, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Wigmore Hall, and his performances have been broadcast by radio stations around the world.

Hayroudinoff has performed with such orchestras as the Sofia Philharmonic, the Osaka Century Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony and the BBC Philharmonic. He records exclusively for Chandos, and his first CD for the label, the world premiere recording of Shostakovich’s Theatre Music, was selected by BBC Music Magazine as a CD of the Year. The Italian magazine Compact Disc Classics likewise acclaimed it as ‘an absolutely precious disc’. His previous CD of Rachmaninov’s Preludes was chosen by Classic FM Magazine as a part of the ‘four discs essential Rachmaninov collection’, alongside the recordings by Arthur Rubinstein and André Previn. The release of his latest CD (the Dvor?ák Piano Concerto with the BBC Philharmonic under Gianandrea Noseda) was greeted with universal acclaim and was selected amongst the best CDs of 2005 by Gramophone. Rustem Hayroudinoff is a professor of piano at the Royal Academy of Music.
