BIOGRAPHY

Stacey Bartsch is Associate Professor for piano accompaniment at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst (formerly Musikhochschule) in Graz, Austria. She studied at the University of Adelaide in her native Australia, at the Musikhochschule in Graz, and with Julius Drake at the Royal Academy of Music in London, from which she graduated with Distinction in 2002, and which elected her an Associate in 2008. As a Britten-Pears Young Artist in Aldeburgh, she attended master-classes with Graham Johnson, Malcolm Martineau, and Roger Vignoles, and she has also performed in master-classes with Dalton Baldwin, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Paul Hamburger, Martin Isepp, and Charles Spencer, among others. She participated in the 2000 Cleveland Art Song Festival and was a Vocal Piano Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center in Massachusetts in 2005 and 2006. Stacey Bartsch has won prizes in many competitions, among others for piano accompaniment and as a duo with the baritone Peter McGillivray. She accompanied the tenor Robert Tear in recitals at the Aldeburgh Festival and in London’s Wigmore Hall, and has also performed in the Schubert-Saal in Vienna, the Opéra national de Paris – Bastille, and in recitals throughout Germany, Austria, and the UK. Recent guest courses at the Conservatory Lucio Campiani in Mantua, the Conservatory Alfredo Casella in L’Aquila, the Accademie dell’ Abbondanza in Pergola, and at the China Conservatory in Beijing reflect her growing teaching commitments.
