BIOGRAPHYThe Argentine conductor Gabriel Castagna began his musical studies in Buenos Aires and continued them in the USA, where he was awarded scholarships at the universities of Rochester, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Michigan as well as Carnegie Mellon University. He has participated in seminars and master-classes in the USA and Germany with Leonard Bernstein, Sergiu Celibidache and Max Rudolf. He was a prize-winner at the 1992 International Conducting Workshop Competition of Marienbad (Czech Republic) and has been awarded a life membership by the Golden Key National Honor Society of the USA. He has conducted numerous orchestras in the USA, Europe and Japan, including the Berliner Symphoniker, Kammerorchester Mannheim, Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, Bohuslav Martinu° Filharmonie, Shinsei Nihon Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Concert Orchestra, and in Argentina the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and the orchestras of Tucumán, Santa Fe, Mendoza, Córdoba and La Plata among others. For the past two decades Gabriel Castagna has undertaken intensive research into Argentine symphonic music, and has received popular and critical acclaim for his many performances and recordings of works by Argentine composers.  |
