BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1969 in San Pedro, Argentina, the pianist Nelson Goerner studied with Jorge Garrubba, Juan Carlos Arabian and Carmen Scalcione before being awarded First Prize in the Franz Liszt Competition in Buenos Aires in 1986. Having then received a scholarship to work with Maria Tipo at the Geneva Conservatory, he won First Prize at the Geneva Competition in 1990. He has given recitals throughout Europe, for example at the festivals of La Roque d’Anthéron, La Grange de Meslay, Schleswig-Holstein and Verbier, and at halls in Paris, Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Geneva, Lucerne and Milan. He has performed as soloist with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Claus Peter Flor, London Philharmonic Orchestra under Emmanuel Krivine, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under Gerard Schwarz, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Sir Andrew Davis, and NHK Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo under Fabio Luisi, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and twice at the BBC Proms with the BBC Philharmonic under Vassily Sinaisky. Nelson Goerner has performed chamber music with the Takács Quartet, duo recitals with Steven Isserlis, Gary Hoffman, Vadim Repin and the mezzo-soprano Sophie Koch, and repertoire for two pianos with Martha Argerich and with his wife, Rusudan Alavidze. His discography includes, for Chandos, Busoni’s Indianische Fantasie.
