Piano Classics

One to watch, Piano Classics is a new label dedicated to solo piano and piano concerto recordings. The label was launched in March 2011, and aims to create a comprehensive piano library of classic archive performances, and new recordings by young and established pianists such as Lukas Geniušas (Silver Medalist, 2010 Chopin Competition), Katia Skanavi, Naum Grubert and Klára Würtz.

Key releases include Nikolai Lugansky’s coupling of Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Sonata and Corelli Variations; Volumes I and II of George Crumb’s Makrokosmos played by Robert Groslot; Bach’s Goldberg Variations in a performance by Evgeni Korollov; and Brahms’s Piano Sonata No. 3 and Handel Variations with Bruno Leonardo Gelber.

The Liszt Bicentenary will be marked by a special edition recording to include performances by Jorge Bolet, Alfred Brendel, Lazar Berman, Sviatoslav Richter, Boris Berezovsky, Louis Kentner, Zoltán Kocsis, and others.
