ONYX set itself up specifically to help musicians express themselves rather than conform to commercial expectations Andrew Clark, London Financial Times
ONYX was started in 2005 by Chris Craker (founder of the Black Box label) and Paul Moseley, for many years a senior executive at Decca. Since August 2006 it is wholly owned and run by Paul Moseley.
ONYX is a new premier-quality label featuring world-renowned artists in the repertoire that is most important to them. So far, ONYX has recorded with Viktoria Mullova, Barbara Bonney, The Borodin Quartet, Yuri Bashmet, Pascal Roge, Christine Schaefer, James Ehnes, Katia Labeque, London Winds, The Nash Ensemble and an exciting new artist, Dutch mezzo Christianne Stotijn. We are adding no more than about 15 releases per year with emphasis always on quality and integrity. So far our release have met with high acclaim, including 4 Editors Choice Awards in Gramophone, 2 Records of the Month each in Classic FM Magazine and BBC Music Magazine, a Record of the Year at the French Diapason Awards in France, and two Grammy Nominations in the US.
